At The Ridge we consider the cross and its purpose to be the foundation for what we believe and why we exist. However, our "Five Purposes" are kind of the why we do what we do. We believe that being purpose-driven allows us to stay focused on what is most important in our church. We use the five purposes of the church to help us stay balanced in what we do. Being purpose-driven isn't new. The Five Purposes of the church are found in the words of Jesus in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission and in the written accounts of the early church in the book of Acts.
The Great Commandment
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself. All the Laws and Prophets hang on these two commandments."
-Matthew 22:36-40
The Great Commission
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to do everything I have commanded you."
-Matthew 28:19-20
The Early Church
"All the Lord's followers often met together, and they shared everything they had. They would sell their property and possessions and give to whoever needed it. Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved."
-Acts 2:44-47
